REPS, an Austrian startup that converts kinetic energy from road traffic into electricity, has secured €20m in funding from undisclosed investor.
Previous backers include Spain's Clean Cities ClimAccelerator, Austria's Greenstart, and German accelerator EWOR.
Founded in Vienna in 2023 by Alfons Huber, REPS installs mechanical converters onto existing road infrastructure. As vehicles drive over them, the system captures otherwise lost energy and feeds it into the grid.
Huber claims the technology is 254 times more efficient than any rival system currently on the market.
"Existing energy harvesting systems have historically failed due to low efficiency, short lifespan, and poor economic viability," Huber said in a press statement. "To solve this, we had to reinvent the mechanical energy converter from the ground up."
REPS' first commercial system has been running at the Port of Hamburg since November 2025. The company targets ports, logistics hubs, and highway infrastructure as its primary markets.
The startup currently employs 12 people and expects to reach 50 by year-end.
