Danish AI company Velatir has raised €5m in a seed round, with Norrsken Evolve doubling down on its earlier bet.
The round is led by Swedish VC firm Spintop Ventures and Denmark's Ugly Duckling Ventures. Norrsken Evolve invested in Velatir's pre-seed round and is now following on.
Norrsken, the Stockholm-based impact hub, launched the fund last summer with a focus on European resilience.
Velatir describes its product as an "operating system for AI". It is a layer designed to give companies control over how AI is used internally, built on European-owned infrastructure rather than American cloud giants.
"Controlling how AI moves through an organisation is quickly becoming critical infrastructure. Michael and the team have converted a sharp thesis into commercial traction faster than almost anyone else in our portfolio, that's why we went back in," says Johan Attby, general partner at Norrsken Evolve, in a press release.
Audited Meta
Velatir was founded by Michael Sørensen, its current CEO, alongside three co-founders. According to the company, he previously led technical security audits of Meta's data centres and spent ten years in the Danish defence industry.
The capital will go towards European expansion and recruitment.
Norrsken Evolve's previous investments include France's Recupere Metals, which recycles copper for electrical wiring, and fellow French company Bubble Robotics, which builds robots for underwater surveillance.
