An EU proposal to make Europe’s largest pension funds invest in venture capital has been dropped, prompting a mixed reaction from investors.
The proposal, put forward by parliamentarian Damian Boeselager, aimed to make it mandatory for Europe’s largest pension funds to invest 2% of their allocations to venture capital – unlocking up to €58bn.
“He correctly diagnosed the problem, but reached for the wrong tool,” Sebastian Heitmann, partner at Extantia, told Impact Loop.
