Their AI can create rose scent without roses – raises capital from Pinc
Gustaf Hemberg's company Scindo uses AI and enzyme technology to create flavours and fragrances in a more climate-smart way. Now the investment arm of the taco and coffee giant, Pinc, is stepping in with capital. 'It's not often you find an alternative that's so much better for the environment and health,' says Rosemari Herrero, investment manager at Pinc.
The smell of roses comes from a specific molecule that is usually obtained by cultivating vast amounts of roses – even though the molecule itself makes up only a fraction of the result. It is inefficient and resource-intensive.
The British company Scindo, founded by the Swede Gustaf Hemberg, has a different solution. They use AI and enzyme technology to create the same bioactive molecules – flavours, fragrances, and ingredients – but in a much more sustainable way.
