The Spanish investment firm has announced the first close of its second fund, Aldea II, with €50m raised so far. The fund is targeting a total raise of €125m.

Aldea Ventures focuses on backing pre-seed and seed-stage investors in deep-tech sectors, including AI, next-gen computing, climate tech, health and bio, and robotics. The firm has already invested in 28 funds managed by 23 different VCs, participating in over 1,000 startup investments.

"At Aldea, we've consistently found that very early-stage specialist managers—fuelled by their unique insights and local expertise – are crucial to detecting the subtle signals that shape tomorrow's breakthroughs", says Alfonso Bassols, Managing Partner at Aldea Ventures.

Aldea II will focus on sub-€100m micro-VCs and sub-€25m nano-VCs, with a limited number of co-investments and secondary opportunities. Initial commitments have been made to Moonfire II (data-driven VC), Amino II (health and bio frontier tech), and Unruly Capital (climate and deep-tech), reports Tech.eu.

The firm is also increasing its exposure to the US market, especially via European funds with cross-Atlantic ambitions and global expansion plans for EU founders.

Aldea Ventures has also announced team changes, with Daniela Cavagliano promoted to Partner and Gabrielle Cummins joining as Principal.

"In recent years, we've witnessed a significant influx of innovative technologies– many with the potential to solve some of the world's most pressing challenges", says Cavagliano. "In my view, these technologies should be a core component of any investor's portfolio."
