'Private capital is stepping up': Carbon Equity raises €105m for climate tech 'fund of funds'

Carbon Equity makes it easy for investors to diversify their climate tech portfolio by providing access to “a fund of funds”.

The concept is proving increasingly attractive during a turbulent time for impact startups: Carbon Equity’s third Climate Tech Portfolio Fund has now closed after raising €105m, the firm says.

That brings the total amount raised by Carbon Equity to more than €300m in 3.5 years, according to co-founders Saskia Bruysten and Liza Rubinstein.

The money will be put into seven to 10 leading climate funds that include more than 150 climate tech companies.

"It's nice to see that in turbulent times like these, supposedly 'BORING' investment opportunities like a fund of funds with ample diversification, suddenly seem very appealing," Bruysten writes on LinkedIn.

'Choosing action over empathy'

The third fund attracted 460 investors, bringing the total Carbon Equity community to 1,250 investors, Rubinstein says.

“It is a strange time - as the energy transition continues to accelerate, we’re also seeing more negative sentiments and more pushback,” she writes on LinkedIn. “But my co-founder international Saskia Bruysten put it beautifully: ‘More people are choosing action over apathy.’”

The firm’s current portfolio already includes more than 25 climate funds from the likes of Giant Ventures, Voyager Ventures and DCVC.

“This is only the beginning. We are committed to enabling as many people as possible to put their capital to work for the energy transition, creating more momentum and co-ownership of the transition,” Rubinstein says.
