'A chance to do things differently' – new AI platform promises smarter wind farm planning
Norwegian Vind AI has unveiled a new AI platform to accelerate onshore wind development across Europe. Backed by Swedish Norrsken VC, the plan is to scale up in Europe.
The Oslo-based technology company, already known for its offshore wind platform, has created a data-driven solution that helps developers design and assess onshore wind farms more efficiently whilst considering environmental and community impacts.
"Scaling onshore wind is essential to meet Europe's demand for affordable clean energy, and digital and AI-powered tools can now transform project planning and design," says Helene Bøhler, co-founder and CEO of Vind AI.

The new platform combines precision yield optimisation, noise analysis and environmental visualisations to support decision-making for individual wind farms and entire portfolios. It was developed alongside renewable energy players including Eviny, Hafslund, and Hydro Rein.
The company's existing offshore wind platform has already gained traction with major European developers including RWE, EnBW and TotalEnergies. Diana Barrios, head of membership at WindEurope, notes that Vind AI has "emerged as a key player in the wind industry" through its use of artificial intelligence to speed up wind farm development.
Meeting 2030 targets
With Europe needing to add 175 GW of wind power capacity by 2030, and onshore expected to make up two-thirds of new installations, the timing appears crucial. The platform aims to help developers navigate this growth while maintaining community support.
"This is a chance to do things differently," says Bøhler. "It isn't just about scaling up – it's about building smarter, faster, and with greater respect for the local communities and environments."
Funding from Norrsken VC
In September, Vind AI announced that it had raised €3m in a seed round led by Swedish Norrsken VC. The round includes participation from Spacemaker founders, Arkwright X and employees.
