Kompas VC has raised a fresh €150m to back industrial impact startups – here’s what they’re looking for

Kompas VC is an early-stage impact investor with offices in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, and Copenhagen. Key investment themes include decarbonisation and industrial technology solutions to reduce emissions and increase productivity.

Now, the VC firm announces it has raised £150m for its second fund. The money will be used to invest in 25 companies working to decarbonise the manufacturing industry and the built environment.

'We have the capital and risk appetite to back ambitious founders who develop these much-needed industry solutions, and help them scale," says Talia Rafaeli, partner at Kompas VC.

Looking for AI and robotics

Rafaeli says the firm is looking to back startups working in areas such as AI, robotics, material science and synthetic biology.

It has already invested in companies like Prewave, which helps companies identify and mitigate supply chain risks, and Ecoworks, which uses prefabricated components to renovate buildings and improve their energy efficiency.

"We are focused on the application layer of industrial tech," says Sebastian Peck, partner at Kompas VC. "With Fund II, Kompas VC is doubling down on its strategy to work closely with industry partners to identify the most promising technology solutions for the manufacturing industry and the built environment."

Andreas Winter-Extra, partner at Kompas VC, says in a press comment that we live in an era where the commitment to sustainability does not go unquestioned, "despite clear evidence that we are on course to fail future generations on climate and biodiversity".
