Finnish startup Skyfora secures €4m to transform mobile towers into weather sensors

Finnish startup Skyfora has developed a patented GNSS solution that transforms existing mobile towers into high-resolution weather sensors without the need for additional hardware. The tech also creates a fresh revenue stream for mobile operators—a clear win-win.

"As extreme weather events become more common due to climate change, accurate forecasts are more important than ever," says Fredrik Borgström, CEO of Skyfora.

Linn-Cecilie Linnemann, partner and head of Nordic and Baltic operations at Lumo Labs, who previously led Norwegian impact investor Katapult, sees Skyfora as a strong fit for Lumo’s investment strategy.

"Skyfora's ability to provide critical weather data aligns perfectly with Lumo Labs' focus on climate action and sustainable cities. As climate change intensifies, reliable weather intelligence becomes increasingly important for urban resilience," she says.

According to Linnemann, the fund plans to invest in 30-35 companies across Europe in the coming years, focusing on "disruptive startups that advance global sustainability goals", with a strong focus on energy, logistics, and mobility solutions.
